Word Made Flesh
John 1:1-5
1 In the beginning was the Word. That Word was with God, and God was that Word. 2 He was in the beginning there with God. 3 All by his hand has been; without him nothing has been. 4 In him was life. Life is the light of men. 5 That light shines within the darkness, and darkness has not overtaken it.

Annunciation to Zechariah
Luke 1:5-12
5 There was in the days of Herod, King of Judea, a certain priest whose name was Zechariah from the office of the house of Abijah. His wife was from the daughters of Aaron; her name was Elizabeth. 6 The two of them were righteous before God and walked in all of His commands and in the justice of the Lord without reproach. 7 They had no son, because Elizabeth was barren and the two of them had been advanced in days. 8 Once when he was performing priestly service before God, 9 the custom of the priesthood came to him to place the incense and enter the temple of the Lord. 10 The whole assembly of the people had been praying outside at the time of incense. 11 Standing at the right side of the altar of incense, an angel of the Lord appeared to Zechariah. 12 Zechariah was disturbed when he saw him, and fear had fallen over him.

Angel’s Response to Zechariah
Luke 1:13-17
13 The angel said to him, “Do not fear, Zechariah, for your prayer was heard. Your wife, Elizabeth, shall bear you a son, and you will name him John. 14 You will have joy and exaltation. Many shall rejoice at his birth. 15 For he will be great before the Lord. He shall drink neither wine nor alcohol and be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother’s womb. 16 He shall turn many of the children of Israel towards the Lord their God. 17 He shall go before him in the spirit and the power of the prophet Elijah to turn the hearts of fathers to their sons and those that disobey to the doctrine of the just. He will prepare a perfect people for the Lord.”

Zechariah’s Response
Luke 1:18-25
18 Zechariah said to the angel, “How will I know this? For I am old and my wife is advanced in days.” 19 The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands before God, and I was sent to speak with you and instill these hopes in you. 20 Henceforth you will be silent and unable to speak until the day these things shall be because you did not trust these words of mine to be fulfilled within their time. 21 The people then were standing and awaiting Zechariah and were surprised by his delay in the temple. 22 Then when Zechariah went out, he could not speak with them, and they understood that he had seen a vision in the temple. He was signing to them and remained mute. 23 When the days of his service were fulfilled, he went to his home. 24 And after those days, Elizabeth, his wife, conceived. She had been hiding herself for five months and said, 25 “The Lord has done these things for me these days: He looked on me to take my shame among the sons of men.”

Anunciation to Mary
Luke 1:26-33
26 At the home of a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph from the house of David (Mary was the virgin’s name), 28 an angel entered her home and said to her, “Hail to you, full of grace! Our Lord is with you, most blessed among women.” 29 Then when she had seen him, she was disturbed by his word, thinking to herself what this peace was. 30 The angel said to her, “Do not fear, Mary, for you have found grace by God. 31 For here you will conceive and bear a son and name him Jesus. 32 He shall be great and be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. 33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end.”

Mary’s Response
Luke 1:34-38
34 Mary said to the angel, “How shall this be? No man is intimate with me?” 35 The angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit shall come, and the power of the Most High shall alight on you. Therefore, he born of you is pure and shall be called the Son of God. 36 Look, Elizabeth, your kinswoman, is also pregnant with a son in her old age; this is the sixth month with her called barren 37 because nothing is difficult for God. 38 Mary said, “Look, I am the handmaid of the Lord; it shall be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel went from her.

Visitation
Luke 1:39-45
39 Then Mary rose up in those days and went carefully to the mountain to the city of Judah. 40 She entered Zecharaiah’s house and asked about Elizabeth’s well-being. 41 When Elizabeth had heard Mary’s greeting, the baby lept within her womb. The Holy Spirit filled Elizabeth, 42 and she called out aloud and said to Mary, “Most blessed are you among women. Blessed is the fruit of your womb. 43 To what do I owe this that my Lord’s mother come to me? 44 For here when the sound of your greeting fell on my ears, the baby in my womb lept with great joy. 45 Beatified is she who has believed there would be the Lord’s fulfillment spoken to her.

Birth of John
Luke 2:56-60
56 Mary then abided at Elizabeth’s about three months and returned to her house. 57 The time had come for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son. 58 Her neighbors and kinsmen had heard God multiplied his grace towards her and were rejoicing with her. 59 It was the eighth day, and they had come to circumcise the child and were about to name him Zechariah, the name of his father. 60 Then his mother answered and said to them, “Not so. Rather he shall be called John.” 61 They said to her, “There is nobody in your family called by this name.” 62 They signaled to his father, “What do you want to name him?” 63 He asked for a tablet, wrote, and said, “John is his name.” And everyone marveled. 64 At once his mouth and his tongue opened, and he spoke and blessed God. 65 There was fear on all their neighbors, and on all the mountain of Judah these things were spoken. 66 All who heard were thinking in their hearts and said, “What shall this child be? The hand of the Lord has been with him.”

Song of Zechariah
Luke 2:68-80
68 The Holy Spirit filled his father, Zechariah, and he prophesied and said: 68 “Blessed is the Lord, the God of Israel, who visited with him and made him salvation. 69 He raised up for us the horn of salvation in his servant David’s house, 70 as he spoke by His holy prophets’ mouth eternally 71 to save us from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us. 72 He made his favor with our fathers and recalled his holy covenants: the oaths he swore to our father Abraham to give to us 74 to be saved from the hand of our enemies and fearlessly serve before Him 75 all our days in justice and in righteousness. 76 And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the face of the Lord and prepare his way 77 so he might give life’s knowledge to his people by the forgiveness of their sins 78 through our God’s loving grace with which the dawn will visit on them from on high 79 to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shades of death, to guide our feet within the path of peace.” 80 The child grew and strengthened in the spirit. He was in the desert till the day of his display to Israel.

Birth of Jesus
Luke 2:1-7
1 It was in those days a command went forth from Augustus Caesar that all of the people of his realm be registered. 2 This first registration had been in the governorship of Quirinius in Syria, 3 and every man was going to be registered in his city. 4 Joseph, too, had gone up from Nazareth, a city of Galilee, to Judea to the city of David called Bethlehem (because he was from the house and tribe of David) 5 with his fiancée Mary while she was pregnant to be registered there. 6 It was there the days she gave birth were complete. 7 She gave birth to her firstborn son, wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger because there was no place where they were lodging.

Adoration of the Shepherds
Luke 2:8-20
8 There were shepherds in the region where they were staying, and they were keeping the night watch over their flocks. 9 Here an angel of God came towards them. Then the glory of the Lord shone upon them, and they feared a great fear. 10 The angel said to them, “Do not fear, for behold, I bring you tidings of great joy which shall be for all the world. 11 For a savior has been born to you today: Christ the Lord in the city of David. 12 This is a sign for you: you are to find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and placed in a manger. 13 From the calm they appeared with the angel heaven’s many forces, glorifying God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace and good hope to the sons of men.” 15 When the angels had gone from them to heaven, the shepherds spoke to one another saying, “We will travel until Bethlehem and will see this word as the Lord made known to us.” 16 They hastily came and found Mary, Joseph, and the baby placed inside the manger. 17 When they saw, they made known the word told to them about the child. 18 All who heard had wondered at what was told to them by the shepherds. 19 Keeping all these words and esteeming them in her heart was Mary. 20 Those shepherds went back glorifying and praising God for all they saw and heard as it was spoken to them.

Circumsicion of Jesus
Luke 2:21-24
21 When eight days were fulfilled so the child was circumcised, he was named Jesus, as he was called by the angel before his conception in the womb. 22 When the days of their purification were fulfilled according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to place him up before the Lord. 23 As written in the law of the Lord: each male opening the womb shall be called holy of the Lord, 24 and they will give a sacrifice as said within the Lord’s law: a pair of turtle doves or two dove fledglings.

Simon
Luke 2:25-35
25 There had been a certain man named Simon in Jerusalem. This man was just and righteous, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26 It had been said to him by the Holy Spirit he should not see death until he saw the Christ of the Lord. 27 This man had come by the Spirit to the temple when his parents brought the child Jesus to act in his stead as commanded by the law. 28 He took him in his arms, blessed God, and said, 29 “Hereafter loose your servant, my Lord, in peace in accordance with your word. 30 Behold, my eyes saw your mercy, 31 that which you prepared before the face of every people: 32 light for revelation to the nations and the glory to your people Israel.” 33 Then Joseph and his mother were astonished at that which was being said about him. 34 Simon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, “Behold, this one is set for the fall and rise of many in Israel and as the sign of contention. 35 In that soul of yours, a lance shall pass through as the thoughts of many hearts shall be revealed.”

Anna
Luke 2:36-39
36 The prophetess Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, from the tribe of Asher, was advanced in years as well. She had lived with her husband seven years from her virginity, 37 and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years and had not left the temple. While in fast and prayer, she was serving day and night. 38 She had also risen in that hour, thanked the Lord, and was speaking about him with everyone awaiting the salvation of Jerusalem. 39 When they had finished everything according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to Nazareth, their city.

Magi before Herod
Matthew 2:1-8
1 The Magi came from the east to Jerusalem 2 and said, “Where is the King of the Judeans who was born? For we saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.” 3 King Herod heard and trembled along with all of Jerusalem. 4 He gathered all the chief priests and the people’s scribes and asked them where the Christ was born. 5 They said, “In Bethlehem of Judea: thus it is written by the prophet, 6 ‘Even you, Bethlehem of Judah, were not the most contemptible among the kings of Judah, for from you a king shall go forth, and he shall shepherd my people Israel. 7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and learned from them what time the star appeared to them. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said to them, “Go track the child diligently, and when you have found him, come show him to me so I also may go worship Him.”

Adoration of the Magi
Matthew 2:9-12
9 When they had heard the king, they went. And here that star they saw in the east was going in front of them until it came and stood above the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with very great rejoicing. 11 They came in the house, saw the child with his mother Mary, fell, and worshipped him. They opened their treasures and offered him sacrifices of gold, myrrh, and frankincense. 12 Then it appeared to them in a dream they should not return to Herod, so they went to their region by another way.

Joseph’s Dream
Matthew 2:13-15
13 Then when they went, the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and said to him, “Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and be there until I speak to you, for Herod is determined to seek the child to destroy him.” 14 Then Joseph rose, took the child and his mother in the night, and fled to Egypt. 15 He was there until the death of Herod to fulfill what was said by the Lord through the prophet who says, “From Egypt I have called my son.”

Slaughter of the Innocents
Matthew 2:16-18
16 Then Herod, seeing he was mocked by the Magi, was very angry and sent for the murder of the children: all in Bethlehem and all within its borders from two years and under at the time he tracked them through the Magi. 17 Then it was fulfilled what was said by the prophet Jeremiah who said, 18 “A voice was heard in Ramah: weeping and much lamentation. Rachel weeps over her sons and does not want to be consoled because they are not.”

Exodus from Egypt
Matthew 2:19-23
19 Then when King Herod died, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream in Egypt 20 and said to him, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who were seeking the child’s life died. 21 Then Joseph rose, took the child and his mother, and came to the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard Archelaus was the king over Judea in his father Herod’s place, he was afraid to go there, and it appeared to him in a dream to go into the land of Galilee. 23 He came and dwelt in the city called Nazareth, so what was said by the prophet would be fulfilled: “He shall be called a Nazarene.”

Child Jesus in the Temple
Luke 2:40-52
40 Then the child was growing and strengthening in the Spirit. He was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him. 41 Every year his people would go to Jerusalem on the Passover feast. 42 When he was twelve years old, they went up as they were accustomed to the feast. 43 Then when the days were done, they returned. But the child Jesus stayed in Jerusalem, and Joseph and his mother did not know it, 44 for they supposed he was with the children of their company. When they had traveled for a day, they sought him at the home of their people and those who knew them. 45 They did not find him, went back again to Jerusalem, and were seeking him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple. Sitting in the midst of teachers, he was hearing them and questioning them. 47 All who heard him were astonished by his wisdom and his statements. 48 When they saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “My son, why did you do this to us? For here your father and I with much anxiety have been seeking you. 49 He said to them, “Why were you seeking me? Did you not know it is proper I should be in my Father’s house?” 50 They had not understood the word he said to them. 51 He went down with them, came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. His mother then kept these words in her heart. 52 Then Jesus grew in stature, wisdom, and grace toward God and men.
