Miracles in Galilee and Capernaum
Wedding at Cana
Luke 4:14; John 2:1-11
14 Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee.
1 On Tuesday there was a feast in Cana, a city of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus and his disciples also were called to the feast. 3 They lacked wine, and his mother said to Jesus, “They have no wine.” 4 Jesus said to her, “What does that have to do with me and you, ma’am? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the attendants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 There were there six stone jars placed for the Jews’ purification and each holding two or three quadrantals. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill up the jars with water.” And they filled them to the top. 8 He said to them, “Draw some out now, and bring it to the main guest.” And they brought it. 9 When that main guest tasted of this water which was wine and did not know from where it was (though the attendants knew because they filled the water), the main guest called the groom 10 and said to him, “Everyone first gives good wine, and once they are drunk, then is the time for the lesser. You, however, have kept the good wine until now.” 11 This was the first sign that Jesus did in Cana of Galilee. He made known his glory, and his disciples were faithful to him.

Proclamation of the Gospel
Matthew 4:17: Mark 1:15; Matthew 4:18-22
17 From that time on, Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven has neared.”
15 “Be faithful to the message.”
18 While he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw the two brothers casting their nets in the sea, for they were fishermen: Simon, called the Rock, and Andrew, his brother. 19 Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I shall make you be the fishers of men.” 20 They at once gave up their nets and followed Him. 21 When he went from there, he saw the two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the ship with their father Zebedee as they were restoring their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and they at once left the ship and their father Zebedee and followed him.

Miracle of the Draught of Fish
Luke 5:1-10
1 When the group had gathered on him to hear the word of God and he was standing by the sea of Gennesaret, 2 he saw two boats standing beside the sea and the fishermen who got off from them and washing their nets. 3 One of them belonged to Simon the Rock. Then Jesus went up, sat down in it, and said they should steer it a little from the dry land to the sea. Then sitting down, he taught the crowd from the boat. 4 When he ceased from speaking, he said to Simon, “All you steer towards the deep and cast your net to fish.” 5 Simon answered and said to him, “Rabbi, all night we have toiled and did not grasp a thing. Yet at your word I cast the net.” 6 When they had done this, they caught a great many fish and their net was tearing. 7 They signaled to their companions on the other boat to come help them. When they came, they filled both boats, so that they verged on sinking. 8 Then when Simon the Rock saw this, he fell down before the feet of Jesus and said to him, “I beg you, depart from me, a sinful man.” 9 Because that catch of fish they had caught, astonishment had seized him and all those with him. 10 So also had it Simon’s partners: James and John, the sons of Zebedee. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not fear. Henceforth you shall be fishing sons of men to life.” 11 Then they brought the boats to land, left everything, and followed him.

Questioning of John
John 3:22-36
22 After these, Jesus came with his disciples to the land of Judea and was walking about there with them and baptizing. 23 John also was baptizing in Aen-on, beside Salim, because there is much water there, and they were coming to be baptized 24 (For John had not yet fallen into prison.) 25 Now there had been a discussion among one of John’s disciples and a certain Judean about purification. 26 They came to John and said to him, “Our master, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, of whom you had testified, behold, he is also baptizing. Many come to him.” 27 John answered and said to them, “A man cannot take something by his own will except if it is given to him by Heaven. 28 You all are testifying to me that I said I was not the Christ, but I am sent before him. 29 He who has a bride is a bridegroom; the friend of the bridegroom is he who stands and listens to him. He rejoices great joy because of the voice of the bridegroom. So now this joy of mine is full. 30 It is fitting for him to increase, and I to decrease. 31 For he who has come from above is above all, and he who has come from the earth is of the earth and speaks of earth. He who has come from Heaven is above all. 32 To what he saw and heard, he testifies, and no one receives his testimony. 33 But he who received his testimony has confirmed that he is the true God. 34 For he whom God has sent has spoken God’s words, for it was not in moderation God gave the Spirit. 35 But the Father cherishes the Son, and he has given everything into his hands. 36 He who is faithful to the Son has life eternal, but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but God’s wrath shall abide on him.”

Nobleman’s Son
John 4:46-54
46 He came again to Cana of Galilee, where he made water wine. There was in Capernaum the king’s servant, whose son was sick. 47 This man had heard Jesus came from Judea to Galilee. He went to him and begged him to come down and heal his son, for he was close to dying. 48 Jesus said to him, “Unless you all see signs and wonders, you will not be faithful.” 49 That servant of the king said to him, “My Lord, come down. Even now the child is dying.” 50 Jesus said to him, “Go. Your son is alive.” That man believed the word which Jesus spoke and went. 51 When he was going down, his servants met him, instilled hope in him, and said, “Your son is living.” 52 He asked them at what time he recovered. They said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever left him.” 53 His father knew that was that hour at which Jesus said to him, “Your son is living,” and he and all his household were faithful. 54 This is the second sign which Jesus did when he came from Judea to the Galilee.

Demoniac in the Synagogue
Luke 4:44; Matthew 4:13-16; Luke 4:31-37
44 He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
13 He left Nazareth and came to dwell in Capernaum upon the sea shore on the border of Zebulun and Naphtali 14 so what was said by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: 15“The land of Zebulun, the land of Naphtali, the sea road, passage of the Jordan, Galilee of the gentiles: 16 the people settling in darkness have seen a great light. The light has risen for those settling in the region and the shades of death.”
31 He taught them on the Sabbaths, 32 and they were astonished at his teaching: his word was authoritative. 33 There was in the synagogue a man in whom there was a spirit of an unclean demon. He cried out with a loud voice 34 and said, “Leave me! What do we have to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? You came for our destruction? I know who you are: the Holy One of God.” 35 Jesus rebuked him and said, “Shut your mouth. Come out of him.” He cast the demon in their midst, and he came out of him, not having done him any harm. 36 Great amazement had held everyone, and they were speaking with one another and saying, “What perhaps is this word with authority and power ordering the unclean spirits to come out?” 37 And the report about him went out throughout their surrounding regions.

Spreading of Jesus’ Fame
Mark 1:35-38; Luke 4:42-43; Matthew 9:35; Mark 1:39; Luke 4:14
35 In the morning, he rose again, went to the wasteland, and was praying there. 36 Simon and those with him were seeking him. 37 When they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is seeking you.” 38 He said to them, “Walk to the towns and cities near them, so there I may also preach, for I have come for this.
42 The crowds were seeking him, came to him, and grabbed him so he would not go from them. 43 But Jesus said to them, “Also to the other cities I need to instill hope in the Kingdom of God for because for this I was sent.”
35 Jesus would go around all the cities and the towns, teach in their synagogues, profess the gospel of the kingdom, heal all illnesses and pains,
39 and cast out demons.
14 His fame went forth in all the region surrounding them. He would teach in their synagoges and had been glorified by everyone.

Parable of New Wine
Luke 5:29-36; Mark 2:21-22; Luke 5:38
29 Levi made a great reception for him at his house. There was a crowd of many publicans and others who were reclining with them. 30 The scribes and Pharisees were murmuring and saying to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with publicans and sinners?” 31 Jesus answered and said to them, “The physician is not sought by the healthy but by those who have taken ill. 32 I did not come to call the righteous, but the sinners to repentance. 33 They then said to him, “Why do the disciples of John constantly fast and pray? Those of the Pharisees do also. Yours yet eat and drink.” 34 He said to them, “You cannot make the bridal guests fast while the groom is with them.” 35 The days will come yet when the groom is raised from them; then they will fast in those days.” 36 He told them a parable:
21“No man casts a new patch and sews it onto a worn garment; otherwise the fullness of the new take from the worn, and there would be a bigger tear. 22 And no man casts new wine in worn skins; otherwise the wine would rip the skins, the skins would be destroyed, and the wine would be spilled. Rather, they cast new wine in new skins.
38“And both of them are kept. No one drinks old wine and at once desires the new, for he says the old is pleasant.”

Lord of the Sabbath
Matthew 12:1-2; Mark 2:24-27; Matthew 12:5-8; Mark 3:21
1 At that time Jesus was walking on the Sabbath in the sowing field, and his disciples had hungered and began to pluck the ears and eat. 2 Then when the Pharisees saw them, they said to him:
24 “See how what they are doing on the Sabbath is not lawful.” 25 Jesus said to them, “Have you all never read what David did when he had lacked and hungered with those with him? 26 How he entered God’s house, when Abithar was chief priest? He had eaten the bread of the Lord’s table, unlawful to eat except for the priests. He also gave it to those who were with him.” 27 He said to them, “The Sabbath was created for mankind; mankind was not created for the Sabbath.
5 “Or did you not read in the Pentateuch that the priests break the Sabbath in the temple without blame? 6 I say to you, here is one greater than the temple. 7 If you but knew it is mercy, not sacrifice, I want, you would not be condemning the blameless. 8 For the Lord of the Sabbath is the Son of Man.”

Withered Hand
Luke 6:6-9; Mark 3:4-5; Matthew 12:11-15
6 On another Sabbath, he entered the synagogue and was teaching. There was a man there whose right hand was withered. 7 The scribes and Pharisees were watching if he would heal on the Sabbath so that they could backbite him. 8 He had known their thoughts and told the man whose hand was withered, “Rise. Come to the middle of the synagogue.” And when he came and stood, 9 Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath day: to do that which is good or evil? To save or to destroy the soul?”
4 Then they were silent, 5 and he looked at them with anger as it was saddening to him because the hardness of their hearts.
11 Then he had said to them, “What man among you having one sheep that falls into a pit on the Sabbath would not take and lift it up? 12 How much more is a man than sheep! Thus, it is lawful on the Sabbath to do what is beautiful.” 13 Therefore, Jesus said to that man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched his hand, and it was restored like its companion.

Conspiracy against Jesus
Matthew 12:14-21
14 Then the Pharisees went out and had taken counsel how to destroy him. 15 Jesus found out and moved from there. Many crowds followed him, and he healed them all. 16 He forbade them to reveal him, 17 so what was said by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: 18 “Behold, my servant I have chosen, my beloved in whom my soul has delighted. I shall place my spirit upon him, and he shall preach judgment to the nations. 19 He shall neither argue nor cry out. No one shall hear his voice abroad. 20 He shall not break a bruised reed nor quench a flickering wick until he brings judgement out to victory. 21 The nations shall hope in his name."

Choosing of Disciples
Luke 6:12; Mark 3:7-12; Luke 6:18-19
12 It was during those days Jesus went out to the mount to pray and spent the night in prayer to God. When it dawned, he called his disciples and chose from them those twelve whom he named apostles.
7 Jesus had gone with his disciples towards the sea and many people from both Galilee and Judah had clung to him. 8 From Jerusalem, Idumea, beyond the Jordan, Tyre, and Sidon, many crowds who had heard all he was doing had come to him. 9 He told his disciples to bring him the boat for the crowds to not crush him. 10 For he was healing many until they were falling on him because they were brought near him. 11 Once those with plagues of unclean spirits saw him, they would fall, cry out, and say, “You are the Son of God.” 12 And many were rebuking them to not reveal him.
18 Both who came to hear his word and be healed of their diseases and those afflicted by unclean spirits were being healed. 19 All the crowd was seeking to draw near him, for power had been coming out from him, and he was healing all of them.
